Genius Hour 1.8

Photo Editing Week 8

For week 8 I got back into my groove.  I focused on creating more imaginative edits on my phone.  I spent around two hours editing this week, and still had ideas.  As I approach my Ted Talk, I will continue to make edits.  I want to show the many examples of edits and ideas I had for my photos.  This week,  I had Jack send me a photo so I could edit it.  It wasn't a very complicated edit, but I thought it turned out great.

For this edit, I wanted to focus on Jack and try making a cartoony edit.
As we all approach our Ted Talks I would appreciate it if anyone sent me any photos they'd like to see edited.

Genius Hour 1.7

Photo Editing Week 7

Rough.  That is the word I would use to describe this week.  I was planning to use my computer to create edits that were as imaginative as my phone edits from last week, but that did not happen.  I played with the editing software on my computer for an hour, and still not accomplish anything spectacular.

This is the photo I was able to edit on my computer.  I was going for more of a painting style of edit,   but you cannot tell with the size of these pictures.

Unimpressed by my computer edit this week, I decided to create more phone edits that I believe the class will be quite impressed with.  I definitely think that phone editing is not only more fun but also way more convenient than computer editing.  For the remainder of my genius hour edits, I plan to only do phone edits and see how creative I can get! Big things to come!

Genius Hour 1.6

Photo Editing Week 6

This week was a very fun week for me.  I was done recreating my previous images and moving on to new things.  This week I spent trying to learn a few different styles and techniques for editing.  Using my phone I was able to make edits that I didn't even think would be possible.  This will make it easy to use my new skills for social media in the future.  Compared to my very first edits I have come a long way, and I still have a great number of possibilities for my editing.
This edit is one of three that I created this genius hour.   This edit isn't quite perfect, but I am impressed with the results.

I've learned that editing can be more than just lighting and composition.  As a matter of fact, I enjoy getting more creative with my edits to create new energy and subject matter.  Next week, I will be using my computer to try out some new techniques.

Genius Hour 1.5

Photo Editing Week 5

Going into week 5 I thought there was nothing that could go wrong.  I felt confident with my ability to edit, but using a new program on my computer was quite the experience.  I failed over and over trying to edit my two photos.  I easy spent over an hour this genius hour just editing.  As a matter of a fact, I spent a little over an hour on each photo.  Things just weren't panning out how I would've liked.  There were certain edits that I could undo, and some I could not.  That being said I had to restart from scratch a few times, and it was super frustrating.  After all was said and done I was quite pleased with my results, but I know I could've done better.  This is one of the two photos I was able to recreate from my 1.2 genius hour.
This is my recreation of my 1.2 edit.  I focused on making the lighting and composition more realistic.  I was able to add more attention to the building and the night sky.

Although I'm not super impressed with this weeks edits, I know that editing is a process just like learning.  If I would've been able to spend a large amount of time editing, the possibilities for my edits would be endless.  Next week, I with be choosing new images to attempt some new editing techniques.

Genius Hour 1.4

Photo Editing Week 4

Week 4 of my photo editing process was a huge success.  This was the first time I used my new phone app to create some cool edits. My plan was to recreate my edits from week one, that I conducted using edits like lighting and color.  I was super impressed with all the features I was able to use in a free editing app.  I now not only have the ability to make my photos better quality and more colorful, but I have the power to add and remove subjects from my images.  This reminded me of a Photo-shop type effect, which I was very pleased with, especially from my phone.  This is one of the recreations from my week one phone edits.
On the left is the original photo, the center is my week one edit, and on the right is my first attempt at playing around with the image.

While using the PicsArt app this week, I saw numerous different techniques I could apply to images later on.  I tried not to overwhelm myself this early on while using the app because I am still unfamiliar with certain tools.  My plans for week 5 are to recreate my second week edits that I produced using my computer.  I am looking to enhance more than just saturation and color.  Let the real computer editing begin!

Genius Hour 1.3

Photo Editing-Week 3

Welcome back to week three of my photo editing experience.  This week was an easier week with the state golf going on.  My plan for this week was to research some new software I could use to help me get more out of my edits.

I started my research by looking up free software for both my phone and computer.  Because I was looking for free software, I needed to be careful when choosing my programs.  The software had to meet a few different requirements. First, it had to be easy to navigate and use. Second, it had to be able to share photos directly to my computer.  Finally, it had to have tools that my previous apps did not possess.

This is the software I have chosen to use on my iMac.  After watching multiple YouTube videos I have become familiar with the software, and I am excited to get started with my first real editing software.

Picsart is the app that I will use to edit photos on my phone, and I used YouTube videos to become familiar with the software as well.

Next week I will use the software to recreate the images I edited in Weeks 1 and 2.  The main focus will be to use my new tools to add several new features to my images.

Genius Hour 1.2

Photo Editing-Week Two

I must say week two was a little interesting.  I was a little behind this week, not with what I accomplished, but when I got it done.  I was out of town again for golf during the regular genius hour time, so I had to make it up over the weekend.  This week I planned to edit a few photos on my computer using nothing but my prior knowledge.  I have an iMac computer and used only its basic software to edit my photos.  I am super pleased with the results I got, because this is the first time I have ever edited a photo on a computer.  This is an example of one of the photos I edited this week using my computer.

Next week I will be researching the best programs I can use for both my phone and computer.  I will try to familiarize myself with the programs with any extra time I have this week. I am very excited to start broadening my knowledge with editing.

Genius Hour 1.1

Photo Editing-Week One

This week I came to realize a few things.  One I have more knowledge than I previously thought I had, and two there are so many different ways you can manipulate and change photos.

My plan for this week was to edit two photos from scratch and see how well I could edit them. Prior to this weeks edits, I possessed little knowledge on editing.  I did this to have a base to pair my end result with after I pick up techniques throughout the whole genius hour process.  This is one example of the edits I did this week.

I used VSCO to edit photos this week, because it the one photo app I have that can edit, besides Instagram, and regular camera on my phone.  VSCO gave me a lot of cool options to work with, but I'm excited what other apps I can use on my phone.  Week two, I will see what I can do while using my computer to edit with no knowledge.
